Visitors to Japan increasing year by year

In those days, so many visitors to Japan come to sightseeing. The number of the visitors is getting more and more. In 1977, the number of visitor to Japan was only 1 million. About 40 years passed, in 2018, the number grew 30 million.
Epspecially in 10 years, the growth of the visitors is remarkable. In 2011, Great East Japan Earthquake happened. The number went down this year. However for following 6 years it has grown by 10% a year.
The number in 2018 got about three times as in 2013 (from 1.03 million to 3.12 million).
The number will be more in the future as well.
What makes them visit Japan? What fascinates the visitors?

What fascinates the tourist to Japan?

It is one of the reasons why they visit Japan that they got more interested in Japan. They visit not only tourist spots but also the life places. They are interested in daily restaurants, shops, groceries, and chemists. For example, a lot of visitors come to ramen (Japanese noodle) restaurants.
Some visitors aim at coming to a lot of famous ramen restaurants. Of course, most famous Japanese food is “washoku”, which means Japanese traditional food. However, many are interested in the other Japanese food, too.

The interest in entertainment old and new.

Entertainment is the other reason why visitors come to Japan. The recreation expenses are getting more. The sum of recreation expenses in 2018 was about four times as much as in 2014. In the other hand, the number of visitors in 2018 was 2.3 times as many as in 2014. Comparing the recreation expenses with the number of visitors, you can see how much cost is increasing.

The traditional art is still very popular as always

Most visitors and residents are still interested in Japanese traditional culture. Once a work is shown into the other countries, so many people go having short experience.
The traditional culture in Japan is unique and has different style of mind. The differences can fascinate visitors and residents.
There are a lot of types of Japanese culture such as ka-do, sho-do, sa-do, noh and so on.
So many people would like to learn Japanese traditional arts, however they may not find the place to learn them because of languages.
In these days, especially in Tokyo, you can find some culture classes which you can take in English.

Why don’t you take lessons in English?!

Some people visiting Japan go taking lessons of Japanese traditional arts. Some people staying in Japan as business go taking lessons to learn Japanese culture more.

Bonsai is “the trees planted in a container”. It is a traditional art. Making miniature landscape, you can feel nature in a container. Shunka-en teaches you how to care, grow, style the bonsai trees. Trial lesson is held every day but Sunday. Usual lesson is held on Sundays.

Wagashi -Yu-art Kichijoji- Yu-art 吉祥寺
Yu-art Kichijoji is a small salon in which you can make wagashi Japanese traditional sweet. You can enjoy wagashi and sado. Wagashi is Japanese traditional food. You can see the way to make wagshi on the website. Therefore, you can check it again at home.

Few classes for wayo
Udoyoshi shodo class teaches wayo style calligraphy. Wayo is Japanese traditional calligraphy style. Japan has pretty many calligraphy classrooms. However, there are few classes teaching wayo style. It may not look like a letter but like a picture. The figure includes Japanese mind.

Various Japanese performances
Noh and Nihon-buyo are traditional Japanese dances. Noh is Japanese style opera, which include dance with song. Each program has each story. On the other hand, nihon-buyo is dance with music with Japanese traditional instruments. This project is produced by Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture. The project has a lot of classes for beginners.
